Karma is a bitch, specially to Microsoft
In the mobile market these days, Microsoft market share for smartphone operating system is less than 5%, while Google Android ( a Linux-based OS ) is around 35%+ and Apple's iOS ( a BSD-based OS ) is around 30%+ too. Recently Microsoft has made a deal with Nokia, where as Nokia will start using Windows-Phone 7 as their smartphone strategy. Whether it works or not is remain to be seen, but from what I see it now, it is just Microsoft bad karma coming back to them.
Why I say so? It is simple, all the time MIcrosoft market's their Windows Operating system has the software ( applications ) that people want to use, and has the games people want to play. Users don't care about which Operating System is the superior one, so even if Linux is 100% more better than Windows, it doesn't matter if it can't run the games people want to play or even the office suites for them to work with.
People are buying iphone and ipads now because it has the games and applications they want on it, they don't care it comes from Apple, the maker of the Mac. Most of the people who own iphones are Windows ( or in other words Microsoft ) users anyways. People are buying Android phones, cause they want an alternative to Apple's iphone but still want the Applications and Games. No one is going to buy a Windows Phone just cause it is made by Microsoft, like how Nokia said, it has become a battle of eco-systems. ( operating systems + services )
In the desktop market, MIcrosoft has always marketed themselves as having good software, and a good ecosystem, and how Linux doesn't have all of those. Funny thing is now in the mobile world Microsoft is where Linux is in the desktop world. All that FUD is coming back to hunt them,
