Social Networking causes addiction and is time consuming

I have reduced my gaming habits quite a bit over the last 2 years, I spend more time doing other stuff online compare to gaming, but there is a dark side to all these online stuff besides losing your privacy, it is also more time consuming then anything else.

Have you ever stop to consider it, on the topic of how long you spend a day checking on Facebook (or Twitter or any other social networking site you prefer, but I will be using Facebook for this example as that is the one I am more familiar with.). You get up in the morning the first thing you do is open Facebook, even before you brush your teeth or have a bath? You check facebook during classes/office hours. You get excited when someone replies to your "wall post" or even post on your wall. You need to open your laptop/netbook at WiFi enable hotspots (like McDonalds, StarBucks, CoffeeBean, Old Town White coffee, etc) just to check facebook.

Are you any of the above? I wont say you need help but this is the problem social networking sites are making people become, which are addicts. Most of us (including myself, before I slowed down) don't realize this. I used to think people obsessed with gaming was bad (online and offline), but now after looking how most of my friends and family have become obssessed and dependend on Facebook, I think I was wrong.

I think I should start a study, which one is more worst, Online Gaming or Social Networking. I have a feeling social networking might become a bigger problem then online gaming in the near future. Instead of people trying to detox you from World of Warcraft, there might even be a site dedicated to detoxing you from facebook maybe.
